Nobody wants to suffer from “dragon mouth,” but most people have bad breath from time to time. Bad breath, which is also known as halitosis, has many causes, ranging from poor oral hygiene to gum disease to eating odorous foods. Dr. Denison, Dr. Allen, and our team are happy to provide a few tips for combatting and preventing halitosis.

Stay Hydrated
Dry mouth occurs when there is not enough moisture in the mouth. As saliva helps clean your mouth by washing away food particles, it is necessary in preventing dry mouth. Be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day to help with saliva flow.

Exercise Proper Dental Hygiene
Our dentists in Bullard, Texas, recommends that you brush your teeth at least twice a day and that you floss at least once daily. Properly cleaning your mouth can help remove food and bacteria that can cause odors.

Be Wary of What You Eat & Drink
Foods that can cause bad breath include (but are not limited to) strong cheeses, garlic, and onions. Eat these foods in moderation to help prevent bad breath. Some beverages, like coffee and alcoholic drinks, can also cause halitosis. Try to avoid these as well.

Visit Our Dentists
Visiting Bullard Family Dentistry often for regular cleanings and recommended treatments is a great way to fight bad breath because these visits allow our dentists to detect any dental issues that may be contributing to bad breath, like tooth decay and gum disease.
